The show stresses importance of an artist community for an artist to grow and develop in. All create different styles of work but are constantly comparing and contrasting against their own. A group of peer artists working alongside each other in Milwaukee. There is something to be said about the “up and coming” art scene here and how the work compares to artists in LA or NY. These are the “up and coming” of MKE.

AIDS Resource Center will be at Sweet Water raffling off some great prizes, and accepting donations. All proceeds will benefit the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, Milwaukee’s largest provider of HIV health care.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with local artists and musicians to help raise much-needed funds for the fight against AIDS as a part of this wonderful Bay View community event,” said Dan Mueller, ARCW Chief Development Officer. “As the number of people living with HIV in the Milwaukee area continues to increase, this financial support is as important as ever.”

Kari Couture is an artist, teaching artist, arts administrator and non-profit arts consultant. She works as the administrator of the Milwaukee Public Schools Partnership for the Arts and Humanities and the MPS Arts Internship Program. She is a MIAD and Public Allies alumnus and has been heavily involved in arts education and community development since she moved to Milwaukee in 2000.

“lines that divide and connect” is a body of work that has been in progress for about two years. In it, Couture uses drawing as a meditation on the shifting, changing, growing and deteriorating that occurs in the break-downs and build-ups of relationships. She pushes, pulls, layers, cuts apart and ties together while contemplating fragile human connections.

Bruce Jackson Architecture - Main House

Bruce Jackson Architecture will host an open studio and gallery event at 2445 South Kinnickinnic Avenue from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The studio is housed in the historic Batchelor Residence (1903), designed by prominent Milwaukee architect Alexander Chadbourne Eschweiler. View historic prints and current drawings of the residence and carriage house (1904). The firm will present drawings, photographs and models of their work in residential design.

A.C.E Gallery - Carriage House

The A.C.E gallery is an experimental gallery/workspace housed in a vintage 1903 carriage house designed by Alexander Chadbourne Eschweiler (A.C.E). Under the direction of Scott Jackson (former owner/director of Cedar Gallery), the gallery will present work from local artists in all media.

In this opening event, view work from the collection of Scott and Leila Jackson and new work from local artists. Artists include Shane Walsh, Jim Herrington, Reginald Baylor, Mike Fredrickson, Francis Ford and Waldek Dynerman. The gallery is located behind the main residence at 2445 South Kinnickinnic Avenue (KK and Wilson).

Jenie Gao is an artist and printmaker specializing in the mediums of woodcut and ink drawing. Through her work, she shares stories of belonging, of how the objects and places we hold onto and associate ourselves with act as anchor points in our families, friendships, and relationships. The desire to anchor ourselves in familiarity contrasts with the need to grow amidst inevitably variable surroundings. At the same time, a grounded sense of identity enables further growth, by creating opportunities to connect with others and evolve our sense of home.
